Our Favourite Places to Shop For Halloween Costumes in Vancouver

October is here, which means we’re getting close to one of many Canadians’ favourite celebrations: Halloween! One thing I love about Halloween is the costumes; I love seeing my friends transformed into someone (or something!) else, and the creative costumes that people come up with can be very entertaining! As you may have read in our October Activities blog post, VGC will be having a costume contest this month. Because Halloween is so popular in Vancouver, it’s easy to find a costume that fits any budget. Read on to learn about the best places to shop for a costume:

Dressew

Dressew is a great place to look for a costume of any kind. They have some premade costumes, where everything you need for your costume is in one package. They also have lots of costume accessories, like wigs, masks, face paint, tutus, and more. The store also has a large selection of fabric and sewing supplies, so if you’re really crafty, you can create your own costume from scratch! Because Dressew has lots of variety in one location, this is one place I would recommend to start looking for a costume if you have never dressed up for Halloween, or if you’re not sure what you want your costume to be. The best part about Dressew? It’s just down the street from VGC!Where? 337 West Hastings Street, Vancouver

Thrift Stores

We know that students often don’t have a lot of money to spare, but don’t worry! It’s possible to create a great Halloween costume without breaking the bank. One way to save money on a Halloween costume is to shop around at different thrift stores. Thrift stores usually carry second-hand costumes that you can buy at a cheaper price than new ones. They’re also a great place to look if you want to create your own costume and are looking for particular pieces of clothing to complete the look. For example, if you want to dress up as a cowboy or cowgirl, you could look in a thrift store for a plaid shirt. There are lots of thrift stores in Metro Vancouver, but we have two of the most well-known listed below:Where?

Party Bazaar

Party Bazaar is open all year and carries supplies for parties and celebrations of all kind. Before Halloween, however, a large portion of the store is transformed into “The Flying Witch Halloween Hangout” – an area dedicated to the holiday! You can find tons of costumes, accessories, face paint, decorations, and more! Party Bazaar is right beside the Main Street-Science World Skytrain Station, so it’s very easy to get to.Where? 1296 Station Street, Vancouver

Dollar Stores

There is nothing that you can’t buy at a dollar store! While you probably won’t be able to find a whole costume here, dollar stores are great places to find accessories and decorations at a very low price. Most dollar stores dedicate an aisle to the holiday – just look for the Halloween themed colours of orange, black, and purple! The closest Dollar Store to VGC is the Harbour Centre Dollarama.Where?
