Activities are back at VGC!
Campus life definitely goes beyond the classroom. It’s been well-documented that students with a healthy balance of academics and extra-curricular activities are more motivated and tend to do better in class. However, participating in this activities was one of the first things to be restricted as the COVID-19 pandemic hit Vancouver in 2020.
But as COVID-19 restrictions and guidelines continue to be eased across Canada, VGC’s Activities department has been busy organizing various activities for students to show them the best Vancouver has to offer! Over the past few months, our students have been to a Vancouver Canucks hockey game, went ice skating, gone paintballing, toured False Creek on a small ferry boat, hiked up Lighthouse Park and even tried curling, just to name a few of the highlights.
Activity plans are afoot
And that’s just the beginning. Activities Coordinator Brent has a lot more in store for the students: “We will be showing them why it was the right choice to come to Vancouver and study at VGC. We want them to experience the beauty and fun of the Canadian outdoors, which we hope can create memories that will last them a lifetime!” So expect more surfing and kayaking trips as we go towards the warmer months, and of course skiing and snowboarding outings, for that truly unique Canadian experience.
Why are activities important?
Activities are an integral part of the VGC student experience. In addition to having more engaged students, activities have a positive impact on their mental health and contribute to the overall well-being of students. Moreover, VGC’s activities are conducted in English, which gives students the opportunity to make new friends and practice their newly-acquired language skills outside of the classroom setting.
VGC is always looking out for the safety and health of students. We continue to monitor the latest COVID-19 situation and will adjust planned activities accordingly with any change in the public safety guidelines.
