VGC Student Experience – Meet Ka Chun

We are excited to introduce Ka Chun, a 15-year-old from Hong Kong who made the most of his four-week experience at VGC International College. Even at such a young age, Ka Chun embraced the opportunity to learn English and connect with students from around the world. Now back in Hong Kong, he reflects on his time at VGC and shares what made his experience so memorable.

Could you please introduce yourself?
Hi guys, I am Luk Ka Chun, 15 years old. I come from Hong Kong. It is very happy that I can study at VGC International College, and it brings me lots of great memories this month.

Why did you choose VGC to study English?
The most biggest reason that I chose VGC International College is that it provides a lot of different courses for us, no matter for daily life or academic needs, from core class, elective class, or afternoon plus. Studying at VGC International College for a month, I have attended different classes such as Listening and Pronunciation, Expressions and Conversation, Academic Preparation Plus, and also Speaking and Error Correction Plus, etc. After attending these classes, using English is more confidently. Therefore, these different classes are provided as the biggest factor for me to choose VGC International College for studying English.
（我選擇VGC國際學校的最大原因是為我們提供許多不同的課程，無論核心課程（Core class）、選修課（Elective class）或下午課程（Afternoon plus class）的日常生活或學術需求。在VGC國際學校學習了一個月，我參加了不同的課程，如聽力和發音、表達和對話、學術準備加上口語和錯誤糾正（Listening and Pronunciation, Expressions and Conversation, Academic Preparation Plus also Speaking and Error Correction Plus）等。上完這些課程後，使用英語更自信。因此，提供這些不同的課程是我到VGC國際學校學習英語的最大原因。）
Do you enjoy your study at VGC? Why?
VGC International College not only provides a lot of courses for us to choose, but also it has a great learning atmosphere here. No matter teachers and classmates are very enthusiastic and passionate about the class, and we will discuss difficult questions together in order to get improvement in English. Furthermore, VGC being an international college, a lot of different countries, different cultures students come here to study English. During the break, we share our culture with classmates. It is a great experience that learning English and sharing our culture which is the most thing I love at VGC International College.

How would you rate the support you got from your teachers and staff?
Teachers and the staff provide lots of support to us, not only academic support but also some suggestions for us to live in Vancouver. Teachers’ passion makes us feel more confident to speak English in the lessons, and they will encourage us to talk more because practice makes perfect. Moreover, staff at VGC International College are also very patient to solve your problems. As it is my first time coming to Vancouver, it is not familiar to this big city, the staff here are willing to solve your issues in order to let you have a good experience at VGC International College and in Vancouver.

What made you want to study here in Vancouver? Do you like the city and is there a special place you can share with us?
Studying in Vancouver has brought a lot of great memories, and that’s why I chose Vancouver to study. As I said before, VCG and Vancouver are both international, so there are a lot of different countries that will come here to work and study. Hence, choosing here to study is a good experience to learn different cultures abroad. Vancouver is a place that is filled with history. Studying in Vancouver for a month, I have the most impressive place is Stanley Park since it has lots of aboriginal culture inside so I am able to learn more about Canadian culture inside the park.
（溫哥華是一個充滿歷史的地方。在溫哥華學習一個月，我最令人印象深刻的地方是斯坦利公園（Stanley Park），因為它裏面充滿很多原住⺠文化，所以我可以在公園內更加瞭解加拿大文化。）
How would you rate the facilities and location of VGC?
VGC International College is located in a great location, and there are a lot of facilities for us. First, it is located at 535 Granville St, Vancouver, BC, where there are SkyTrain stations nearby, like the Canada Line, there are Vancouver City Center Station and Waterfront Station. Also on the Expo Line, there is Granville Station, which is located near our school, and there are a few bus stations nearby. Also, VGC International College provides a lot of facilities for us, like plenty of microwaves. For entertainment, there are some board games like foosball. Providing lots of different facilities for us and a great location, I think it is easy for people who are first time coming here.
（VGC國際學院地理位置良好，有很多設施供我們使用。首先，它位於不列顛哥倫比亞省溫哥華格蘭維爾街535號，附近有天車站（SkyTrain），如加拿大線（Canada line），有溫哥華市中心站和海濱站（Vancouver city centre station and Waterfront station），還有博覽會線（Expo line），有格蘭維爾站（Granville Station），位於我們學校附近，附近有幾個巴士站。 此外，VGC國際學校為我們提供了許多設施，如大量的微波爐，而娛樂方面，有一些棋盤遊戲，如桌上足球。為我們提供了許多不同的設施和一個很棒的地點，我認為首次來到這裡的人很容易找到。）
Would you recommend VGC to other students who want to study English in Vancouver?
Talking about a lot of wonderful experiences at VGC International College and in Vancouver, I will recommend others to come here. These two places are full of different cultures, especially have a long history. You can learn English and broaden your horizons through sharing cultures and visiting historic places. I am sure that not only can you get improvement in English, but also you make many friends here and learn a lot of things.
