Meet Ko-Jung, a traveler from Taiwan who decided to take a break from work and follow her dream of studying abroad. With a long-standing desire to experience life outside of her home country, she chose Vancouver as her destination and enrolled in VGC International College’s Global English and IELTS Preparation programs. Since arriving, Ko-Jung has not only improved her English in a supportive and immersive environment but has also built meaningful friendships, explored Canada’s stunning landscapes, and made unforgettable memories along the way.

Could you please introduce yourself?
My name is Ko-Jung, and I’m from Kaohsiung, Taiwan. Just a little bit of myself, after graduating from college, I’ve always wanted to experience studying and living outside of the country. So after working for a while, I decided to take a break this year and come live in Vancouver.

What attracted you to enroll in the English program at VGC?
After I decided to come to Canada, I began discussing International language school options with my agent in Taiwan. They gave me some choices along with each school’s benefits. I ended up choosing VGC because I have heard lots of good things through our videos and feedbacks from previous students. The school gave me a very comfortable impression throughout my researching —and after arriving here, that feeling did not change overall.

How would you rate the support you got from your teachers and staff?
The teachers at VGC are very kind and generous. Whether I needed help with academics or daily life, the teachers always tried their best to answer my questions and showed genuine concern for my well-being. Especially when it comes to the course content, learning English from native speakers has been one of the most unforgettable parts of this experience. Also, when I had questions about my housing or lessons, the staff responded quickly and helpfully. I really have to say, it’s really helpful that the school has staff who can speak different languages—it’s a huge benefit for international students when facing all these kinds of problems.

In what ways has the course enhanced your English skills and development?
During the six months I’ve studied here, the courses and the English-speaking environment have helped me become more confident in speaking English. I’ve also felt clear improvements in listening, reading, and writing. The school’s policy that students can only speak English on campus has also given me many chances to practice with classmates from different countries. Over time, speaking English has become more natural into my everyday life.

Do you think this course will help you in your future career?
I also took a few weeks of IELTS preparation courses. Although the IELTS is more academic and challenging compared to Global English, I believe reaching a level where I can take an international English proficiency test will definitely help me in job searching.

Are you happy with the classmates you have? Have you been able to create networks or connections through this program?
I really like all of my classmates! Everyone comes from different countries, and as international students living outside of our own country, we’ve learned sp much from each other, helped each other, and also traveled together. These are experiences that are hard to value with money. I’ve also made some very close friends, and I’m very thankful to have met everyone here. it’s truly a valuable part of my time at VGC.

What made you want to study here in Vancouver? Is there a memorable moment or activity that you’d like to share?
I chose to come here because many friends who had traveled to Canada said they liked it here a lot. I also have relatives living here, and overall, it just felt like a comfortable place, and that is the reason why I am here. Although during the winter time, it gets really cold! I’ve made many unforgettable memories here, like traveling to Calgary and Banff, kayaking in Deep Cove, hiking, and trying lots of international foods. Canada’s natural landscapes are definitely listed as my all-time favorite.

Would you recommend VGC to other students who want to study English in Vancouver?
Yes, definitely. If you want to learn English in a fully immersive environment and have the budget, this is a perfect choice. VGC has solid courses, a variety of activities, a convenient location, and teachers who are very willing to support students in improving their English. Overall, it’s absolutely worth it to give it a try!
