Can you please introduce yourself?
My name is Claudia Gacitua. I’m Chilean, an early childhood educator and a primary school teacher for the first cycle. I consider myself a cheerful, sociable person who’s great at making friends. I’m adventurous and love traveling, discovering new cultures and ways of life—experiences I share with my students to broaden their view of the world. I truly believe in the transformative power of education and that every corner of the planet can teach us something valuable.
What attracted you to enroll in the VGC English program?
What attracted me to enroll in the VGC English program was that by doing so, I could secure a Working Holiday visa, which was a great opportunity to come to Canada. Also, the English course is essential to navigate daily life and adapt better here. Although I chose to focus solely on studying, the program also allows you to work while studying, making it a great option for those who want to do both.
How has the course improved your English skills and development?
Honestly, the course helped me a lot in every way. I arrived barely speaking English, and now I can communicate much better. I’ve gained confidence and no longer fear speaking. I can even have a conversation with someone who only speaks English, something I thought was impossible before. It has been a big step for me both personally and professionally.
Do you think this course will help you in your future career?
Absolutely. As a teacher, knowing English has always been a plus, but nowadays it’s not just an advantage—it’s a necessity, no matter the field you work in. This course gave me the tools to communicate better and continue growing professionally. I’m sure English will open many doors for new opportunities in my teaching career and help me connect with more people around the world.
How would you rate the support you received from your teachers and staff?
From 1 to 10, definitely a 10. I had wonderful teachers. Being a teacher myself, I truly appreciate quality teaching, and I can say that VGC’s teachers are amazing: attentive, friendly, and truly passionate about what they do. Thanks to them, I went to every class energized and motivated. I’m very grateful for all their support!
Are you happy with your classmates? Have you been able to create networks or connections through this program?
Yes, I’m very happy with my classmates. I made friends from many different countries, and the most beautiful thing, besides learning English, was gaining a whole network of new friends to share experiences and cultures with. That made my experience much richer.
What made you want to study here in Vancouver? Is there a memorable moment or activity you’d like to share?
Honestly, I always wanted to study English outside my country, and I chose Vancouver because of the climate and, as I mentioned before, its incredible mix of nature and city life. There are so many memorable moments here! You never get bored; there’s always something to do and discover. I prefer to leave those adventures for future students to discover on their own, because these are experiences that stay in your heart forever.
What do you love most about Vancouver?
What I loved most about Vancouver is how it perfectly blends the beauty of nature with the energy of a modern city. In one day, you can walk along the beach, explore forests, and then enjoy a vibrant, lively city. Also, its multicultural environment lets you learn about different cultures every day. It’s a place that not only shapes you academically but transforms you personally.
Would you recommend VGC to other students who want to study English in Vancouver?
Yes, absolutely! I would recommend VGC to anyone wanting to study English in Vancouver. The teachers are high quality, the classes are fun and well-designed to help you really learn. Plus, the environment is warm and welcoming—it makes you feel at home and you never feel alone. The community is friendly, there are plenty of activities to socialize and grow, and the staff’s support is constant. Studying at VGC not only improves your English but also gives you an unforgettable experience full of valuable connections.
