RC’s Path from Taiwan to College in Canada

I’m RC from Taiwan. I’ll be starting my studies at a public college in Vancouver next year. Back in high school, I took the GSAT and unfortunately scored only 4, especially struggling with English. However, over the past eight months at VGC, my English has improved significantly. On my most recent IELTS test, I achieved a band score of 6, which I never imagined possible before.

大家好，我是來自台灣的 RC。我即將於明年進入位於溫哥華的一所公立學院就讀。還在高中時，我參加過學測，英語成績只有 4 級分，表現可以說是相當不理想。但在 VGC 語言學校學習的這八個月中，我的英文有了顯著進步。最近一次的 雅思考試中，我取得了 6 分的成績，這對曾經的我來說是難以想像的突破。

 

 

Before hearing about VGC, I had already chosen another language school. VGC was actually the newest addition to my list. I researched more than five language schools and consulted with several agencies. After comparing tuition fees, location, and university pathway programs, I found that VGC offered the best overall value. Interestingly, its representative color is purple, my favorite color, which made the decision even easier.

其實在得知 VGC 之前，我已經有心儀的語言學校。VGC 是我考慮的最後一所，也是一開始最陌生的選項。但經過與五所以上的語言學校及多家代辦比較後，我發現 VGC 在學費、地點以及銜接課程方面都是 CP 值最高的選擇。更巧的是，VGC 的代表色是紫色，剛好也是我最喜歡的顏色，這也讓我對它多了一份好感。

 

 

I’m especially grateful for the support I received from my teachers and VGC staff. In the IELTS Preparation course, Safreena taught me many useful strategies and techniques that helped me feel more confident during the exam. Gerda, my Global English teacher, taught me grammar, vocabulary, and idiomatic expressions in an engaging and memorable way.

I also want to thank the staff members, especially Jordan and Stacey, who patiently helped me with my academic and personal concerns every week. They always responded quickly and provided valuable advice when I was deciding which college to attend. I truly appreciated their support and kindness.

Lastly, I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to Avery—the Chinese-speaking staff member at the school. Avery’s patience, empathy, and clear communication have made an incredible difference in my experience. Whether I was facing concerns, frustrations, or course-related issues, Avery was always there to support me and help resolve things efficiently, making me feel heard, understood, and truly cared for. Without their help, navigating certain situations would have been much more difficult due to language barriers.

在 VGC，我遇到了許多優秀的老師和熱心的職員。雅思準備課程中，Safreena 教授了我許多實用的考試策略與技巧，讓我在面對考試時更加冷靜自信。而全球英文課程的老師 Gerda，則讓我在語法、單字與慣用語方面進步非常多。

此外，我特別感謝學校職員 Jordan 和 Stacey。每當我對未來的學校選擇感到迷惘或遇到其他問題時，他們總是耐心傾聽並提供具體建議，幾乎每週都幫我解決各種疑問。我知道自己常常麻煩他們，但他們總是熱情歡迎我，讓我感到非常溫暖。

最後，我想向 Avery 表達我最誠摯的感謝, 他是學校裡能說中文的職員。在這段期間，不論是遇到煩惱、挫折，還是課程上的困難，Avery 總是耐心傾聽、細心協助，讓我能夠快速有效地解決問題，不會因語言差異而感到孤單或無助。他的理解與支持，對我來說意義重大，讓我在學習旅程中感受到被重視與關懷。

 

 

The IELTS Preparation class was one of the most beneficial parts of my experience. We had mock exams twice a month, which helped me become familiar with the test format and reduce my anxiety. The Global English course was practical and life-oriented. When I first arrived in Vancouver, I was afraid to speak English. However, this class built my confidence through group discussions with classmates at similar English levels but from diverse backgrounds.

In the Plus class, I chose the Business English course. Although it was a bit challenging at first, it introduced me to professional business vocabulary and essential communication skills. It’s a great option for anyone wanting to improve their vocabulary in a specialized context.
As for the elective classes, I had the chance to try many different options. My favorite was Alcina’s class. She may be quirky, but she’s also funny, engaging, and incredibly experienced in IELTS. She transformed what could have been a dull subject into something fun and inspiring.

在雅思準備班中，我學會了各種應試技巧，最有幫助的是學校每月舉辦兩次模擬考，模擬真實考試情境，讓我逐漸克服對考試的焦慮。
全球英文課程 非常生活化也具趣味性。剛來加拿大時，我其實很怕開口說英文，但這門課幫我建立了信心。班上的同學英語程度接近，口音多元，讓我在交流時不會感到尷尬，學習挫折感也大大減少。

我選擇的加強課程是商業英語，雖然一開始覺得有些難度，但內容非常實用，學到了很多商業詞彙與溝通技巧。對想提升專業英文詞彙的人來說，這門課是非常好的選擇。

最後要提到的是選修課，VGC 提供多樣選擇，我也嘗試了不同課程。印象最深的是 Alcina 的課。她雖然有些古怪，但教學風格幽默又充滿經驗，把原本學術性強、容易枯燥的 IELTS 主題變得有趣又吸引人。

 

 

One of the best parts of studying at VGC was making friends from all over the world. I got to learn about different cultures and traditions through daily conversations, group work, and shared experiences outside of class. I even promised my Korean friend Kate that I’d take her to visit popular spots and restaurants in Taiwan one day. VGC is definitely a great place not only for studying but also for building lasting friendships and experiencing cultural exchange.

 在 VGC，我交到了來自世界各地的朋友，透過課堂互動和課外活動，不但學到語言，也了解了不同國家的文化和生活方式。我常和朋友及老師一起去探索溫哥華的各種景點與美食。甚至已經答應來自韓國的朋友 Kate，未來要帶她去台灣旅遊。我認為 VGC 是一個非常適合交朋友、認識不同文化的地方。

 

 

To be honest, Vancouver is the ideal city for me. It’s multicultural and welcoming, with very little discrimination. Plus, its mild winters make it the warmest city in Canada during the cold season, which made my adjustment easier. I’ve already built a network of friends here, which is another reason why I chose to pursue my college education in Vancouver.

坦白說，溫哥華對我來說是一個非常友善、包容的城市。在這裡，我幾乎感受不到歧視。溫哥華的冬天也是加拿大最溫暖的，氣候變化不大，讓我更容易適應。我也在這裡建立了穩定的朋友圈，這也是我決定在這裡繼續升學的原因之一。

 

 

I’ve attended other language schools in the past, but none compare to VGC. Many schools have overcrowded classes and inconsistent teaching quality. At VGC, there are multiple classes for each level.

Moreover, VGC is one of the few language schools that provides Chinese-speaking staff to assist students with any issues they may encounter. This support helped me overcome language barriers and eased the sense of helplessness I felt when first adapting to life in Vancouver. It’s one of the many reasons why I truly appreciate VGC
VGC also offers direct pathways to BCIT—one of the most well-known public colleges in Vancouver. In fact, only two language schools are officially partnered with BCIT, and VGC is the more affordable option. If you’re serious about working or studying in Vancouver, I highly recommend choosing VGC.

我曾在其他語言學校就讀過，但相比之下，那些學校課程安排不夠完整，教師水準參差不齊，班級人數又多，學習效果不佳。而在 VGC，每一個程度的課程都有多個班級，如果不喜歡某位老師的教學方式。

再者，VGC 是少數提供中文職員協助的語言學校之一，能協助學生處理各種疑難雜症。在這裡，我能有效克服語言隔閡，也減輕了剛到溫哥華時對新環境的不適與無助感。這正是我特別喜歡 VGC 的原因之一。
更重要的是，VGC 是少數與 BCIT合作的語言學校之一，而 BCIT 是溫哥華非常有名的公立學院。目前只有兩所語言學校有與 BCIT 的銜接課程，而 VGC 的學費更具競爭力。如果你打算在溫哥華工作或升學，我非常推薦你選擇 VGC。
