Could you please introduce yourself?
Hi, I’m Vicente, I’m 20 years old and I come from Pedreguer, a small town of about 7,000 people located in the province of Valencia, just 6 kilometers from the Mediterranean Sea. I studied a Vocational Diploma in Business Administration and Finance, which is equivalent to a College Diploma here in Canada. Before coming here, I worked as an accountant at a company called Servicolor, where I was responsible for the accounting of 17 different stores.
Eventually, I decided to leave my job and start a new chapter in Canada to improve and perfect my English—and, most importantly, to grow personally and professionally. I arrived in Vancouver on February 1, 2025, with a Working Holiday Visa that allows me to stay and work in Canada for two years.
Why did you choose to come to Canada and study at VGC?
My decision to come to Canada was quick and unexpected. In mid-December, I contacted David from “Aprende Viajando en Inglés,” and he offered me one of the last two available spots at VGC for the end of 2024.
I came with my best friend—actually, more like a brother—Gabi. At that point, we didn’t even know where Vancouver was! We signed up for a 3-month program connected to the Working Holiday Visa (RO stream). I ended up extending my studies for three more months, and now I study and work in Vancouver, while Gabi continued on his own path.
What attracted me to VGC was not only the chance to improve my English, but also the opportunity to get a work. This opened the door for me to start a new life here while gaining valuable language and life experience.
What has your experience at VGC been like?
Studying at VGC has helped me improve my English in all areas—grammar, vocabulary, and especially fluency when speaking. I’m currently taking IELTS classes, which are helping me prepare for the exam I need to apply for an Australian visa next year.
The classes are very practical and focused, and the multicultural environment in the classroom makes learning fun and dynamic. We practice real-life situations that help us feel more comfortable communicating in daily life and in the workplace.
How would you describe the teachers and staff at VGC?
The teachers and staff at VGC are simply amazing. They are supportive, approachable, and genuinely care about the students. Whether you need help with a grammar question or personal advice, they’re always there for you. Their passion and dedication make a huge difference in the learning experience.
Have you made friends or connections through the program?
Absolutely. I’m a very open and outgoing person—I love making jokes and connecting with others. Making friends here has been easy and natural.
At VGC, I’ve met incredible people from all over the world, and we’ve created strong friendships. It’s amazing how, even with different backgrounds, we all share similar dreams and challenges. That connection makes the journey even more meaningful.
Do you have a special memory you’d like to share?
When I first arrived in Vancouver, I felt like I was living in a movie. Everything was new, exciting, and beautiful.
One of the most unforgettable experiences I’ve had so far was traveling to the Rocky Mountains with my parents, Gabi, and his family. We spent several days surrounded by jaw-dropping landscapes, sharing laughs and unforgettable moments.
It was also surprising to discover what Vancouver is really like. I imagined a freezing city filled with native Canadians. But instead, I found a multicultural, vibrant city with mild weather. Of course, locals call it “Raincouver” because of the long rainy season—but honestly, I love its unique charm.
Would you recommend VGC to other students who want to study English in Vancouver?
Definitely! VGC is a high-quality school with professional teachers, modern facilities, and a welcoming atmosphere.
Coming to VGC has been one of the best decisions I’ve ever made, and I would 100% recommend it to anyone who wants to study English, explore a new culture, and grow personally and professionally.
