Learning English in Vancouver isn’t just about language – it’s about building confidence, making friends, and experiencing a new culture firsthand. Jia-Ci, a chemistry student from Taiwan, shares how her time at VGC International College helped her improve her practical English skills, connect with people from around the world, and explore the natural beauty and vibrant life of Vancouver.
Hello everyone, my name is Jia-Ci, Cindy. I’m currently a third-year chemistry student at Fu Jen Catholic University. My interests include reading extracurricular books and hiking, and I also really enjoy discovering new things.

What attracted you to enroll in the English program at VGC?
I think the teachers at VGC are excellent. Their teaching style is lively and engaging, and they often give students plenty of space for discussion. They also throw out many questions for us to respond to and talk about. Sometimes, we even play small games (for example, Kahoot) to review what we’ve learned or to get to know different cultures.
我覺得VGC的老師都很優秀,教學方式很活潑,
How would you rate the support you got from your teachers and staff?
I feel that this course has improved both my writing and speaking skills. Since we can only speak English at VGC, you often need to have conversations with classmates in order to communicate, which quickly enhances your speaking ability. The teachers also teach us various types of writing, such as essays, reports, and emails, and these writing lessons are very practical in daily life. For example, I once had to write a formal letter to my landlord in Canada about moving out, and that experience really helped me strengthen my ability to use English in everyday situations.
我覺得這堂課提升了我的寫作跟口說的能力,
What made you want to study here in Vancouver? Is there a memorable moment or activity that you’d like to share?
I came to VGC because of my aunt’s invitation. I attended the language school with my aunt, while my cousin joined the summer camp, both within VGC. There are many unforgettable and impressive experiences. I really like Vancouver’s weather, July here feels very comfortable, almost like autumn in Taiwan. It rarely rains, the air is dry, and the climate is pleasant. You don’t even need air conditioning because it’s already cool and refreshing. I also really enjoy the people here, they are friendly and willing to interact with us. But what I love the most are Vancouver’s natural scenery and transportation. With public transit, you can easily reach outdoor and nature spots. This convenience makes it easy to explore, and the beauty and grandeur of nature here allow you to see a side of the world that feels truly wonderful, something I can’t really experience in Taiwan.
因為受到姑姑的邀請,就跟姑姑和表弟一起來上課,
Would you recommend VGC to other students who want to study English in Vancouver?
Yes, because in addition to having excellent teachers and teaching, VGC also organizes extracurricular activities. There are activities almost every day, which not only help us get to know the city of Vancouver better but also give us opportunities to interact with many people.
會,因為VGC除了師資跟教學很優秀以外,還會舉辦課外活動,
