For Dante, studying English in Vancouver became much more than a language course — it was a life-changing experience. A student from Mexico, Dante joined VGC’s Global English and IELTS Preparation programs with the goal of improving all his English skills. Over six months, he gained confidence, built meaningful friendships, and created unforgettable memories both inside and outside the classroom. In this testimonial, he shares how VGC’s supportive community and immersive learning environment helped shape his personal and academic growth.

Hello everyone! My name is Dante Sáenz, I’m from Mexico and I’m 20 years old. I came to Canada to improve my English in all the skills as listening, writing, vocabulary and grammar. Coming to Vancouver allowed me to make it happen, and became one of the best experiences of my life. What started as a language course quickly transformed into a journey of personal achievements, friendships that felt like family, and unforgettable memories.

I decided to study at VGC because I was looking to enrol in a school where I could truly improve my English, and VGC caught my attention by the diverse community and the way it focuses on a real communication between students and teachers.

I was literally in all the English courses at VGC during these six months, where teachers helped me achieve a higher level, from B2 to C1. One of the classes I took was IELTS. This class really played a big role to improve my writing and how I can use the academic vocabulary depending on the context, as well to be more prepared to get my certificate in English. The Debate Elective Class grew on me expressing my ideas, participating in conversation with my classmates. Little by little, English started to feel less intimidating and more natural, and I gained more confidence to speak.

This experience had a positive impact, and I know it will be in the future, as I feel so much more prepared for international opportunities in any area such as education, job, or personal life.

Talking about the teachers and staff at VGC, they were always supportive, approachable and kind. They genuinely take care of the students and are willing to help in every situation. The strong connection with the teachers led to a valuable moment to anyone, where students feel safe in a new place that is not their home, including me.

Vancouver is an amazing city to study – it is full of life, of nature with one of the biggest parks in Canada, and all the cultural diversity. One of my favourite moments was the trip to Banff organized by VGC, unforgettable moments with my friends, teachers and the landscapes of the town. I remember when it started as a dream to me, seeing the photos of Lake Louise on Pinterest, came true in the best way. It also taught me to have independence and self-confidence, and to be open to new perspectives. Beyond studies, this experience gave me a family, memories that I will carry with me and beautiful souls who supported me in every step of the way.

I would definitely recommend VGC to anyone who wants to study English, specifically in Vancouver.
