For Hyungjin (Jack), studying English was only the beginning. A solutions sales representative from South Korea, Jack joined VGC to strengthen his English and later discovered the Business Certificate in Practical Sales Techniques. Could you please introduce yourself?
Hi! I’m Hyungjin Jo from Korea. My English name is Jack. All my Vancouver friends called me JackJack.
Back in Korea, I work as a solutions sales rep in the IT cybersecurity industry. I went to Vancouver for 6 months to study English and spent 24 weeks at VGC.
What attracted you to enroll in the Business Certificate program at VGC?
When I finished the Global English Level 7 course, my manager happened to mention that the Business Certificate had sales-related classes. I was eager to work at a global company at the time, so I saw it as a perfect opportunity to build my business English skills and jumped right in!
In what ways has the course improved your English skills and your business skills?
The Business Certificate course I took, Practical Sales Techniques, covered sales theory but was heavily focused on hands-on practice. We improved our presentation skills through weekly pitches, did role-playing as salespeople in negotiations, and for the final project, we created a mock company and pitched to convince clients. Preparing that built not just my business English, but also real confidence in public speaking!
Do you think this course will help you in your future career?
Absolutely! If I’m working in sales at a global company, this course will be incredibly helpful. I’m still building my skills, but with the business English and presentation confidence I gained, I’m confident I’ll be speaking English fluently and boldly in the future.
How would you rate the support you got from your teachers and staff?
The teachers were incredibly passionate about teaching us and always provided unwavering support. (I really miss Eli! 
) Even though the staff had to manage so many students, they remembered everyone’s names and constantly encouraged our English learning. Thank you, Jordan! 
Are you happy with the classmates you have? Have you been able to create networks or connections through this program?
The biggest advantage of a language school is definitely the networking! At VGC, I met friends from all over the world, and we’re still in touch regularly. It’s hard to find friends who motivate each other and provide support while living abroad, but VGC helped me build great friendships and meaningful connections. :)
What made you want to study here in Vancouver? Is there a memorable moment or activity that you’d like to share?
I love nature and dislike extremely cold weather, so I picked the nature-friendly Vancouver. Of course it was the perfect environment for me! :) At VGC, they run a monthly Conversation Pub activity where we’d all grab a beer and chat together. That’s my favorite memory. I got really close with friends there, and we’re still in touch now! Miss you guys!
I absolutely recommend it! During my 24 weeks at VGC, I created unforgettable memories and made so many friends. Looking back, that time boosted my English confidence tremendously. Now I can chat with foreigners without hesitation! Still hesitating? Vancouver is waiting for you! :)
