Could you please introduce yourself?
I am Irenia, from Taiwan. Before coming to Canada, I hardly used English in my work and life. My English level is not as good as that of a junior high school student. Every time I see people in the media communicating fluently in English, I often hope that I can do the same. Like them, they answered questions in English fluently. I remember the first day I came to VGC, many Korean and Japanese classmates who were at the same time as me could talk to everyone in relatively fluent English. At that time, I could neither understand nor speak clearly.

What attracted you to enroll in the English program at VGC?
Originally, I knew nothing about study tours, and I didn’t know how to choose a language school. After the agent introduced several language schools, I found that VGC was very concerned about students’ learning status, and the reviews on the Internet were also very good. Since there are relatively few Chinese students here, There will be an environment where you are forced to practice English.

In what ways has the course enhanced your English skills and development?
I participated in VGC’s Global English course. It is different from the previous way of learning English for exams when I was a student. The teacher will design games so that we can learn from the games so that we can better integrate into life. One of the games is like the teacher ordered Decide on a topic, divide the class into groups, and let us debate. This requires me to pay more attention to understand what the other person is saying, and I also need to learn to express myself clearly in English. Or at the beginning, I was used to answering only keywords, and the teacher would ask me to speak the whole sentence. At first, it was very Taiwanese English, and neither my classmates nor the teacher could understand it. This gradually made me start to think in English.

Do you think this course will help you in your future career?
My English ability does not have a great impact on my original job, but it will have a greater impact on my career. I can learn more things in English, and I can also see future trends from English and prepare in advance.

How would you rate the support you got from your teachers and staff?
I was very lucky. My class teachers were very patient and took the initiative to find out my needs and problems. Especially when I could barely understand English at the beginning, the teacher encouraged me to do more and let me practice more. Chance. In addition, even teachers we only know on the sidewalk will take the initiative to help and encourage us. They will lead by example and communicate with us, allowing us to use English in our daily lives.
The administrative staff provided me with more assistance in daily life and activities. I remember once I participated in a water activity. It was a bit cold and drizzling that day. My classmates were discussing whether the activity would be cancelled, but Jason, who was in charge of the activity, said firmly: ” It’s okay, it won’t be cancelled.” Everyone headed to the destination with a bit of excitement and a bit of worry about catching a cold. Unexpectedly, it didn’t rain, and everyone had a great time that day. I’m glad that he persisted and gave me unforgettable and beautiful memories.
If you are worried that your English level is not enough to discuss matters or course planning with native English speakers, there are Chinese services here, and Avery will try its best to help you. You will feel like you have made an extra friend.

Are you happy with the classmates you have? Have you been able to create networks or connections through this program?
If I had not studied abroad, I would not have had the opportunity to be friends with people from so many countries. By communicating with them, I could see our differences as well as our similarities. I am very happy to meet so many people from different countries at the language school. We all agree that if we go to each other’s country, we must send messages to each other. Our friends seem to be scattered from their own countries to all over the world.

What made you want to study here in Vancouver? Is there a memorable moment or activity that you’d like to share?
I initially chose Vancouver based on a recommendation from a friend, but after getting to know a few cities, I felt that Canada and Vancouver were relatively safe and friendly.
The most impressive thing is that there are many water activities here. I remember once participating in a water activity organized by the school. At first, many people did not dare to stand on the board on the water. When someone started to stand up, I also wanted to challenge it. Look, I didn’t expect it to be possible.
