Could you please introduce yourselves?
We are Miae (Miya) and Dohyung (Harry).
What attracted you to enroll in the English program at VGC?
We’d like to improve our English skills.
In what ways has the course enhanced your English skills and development?
Back in Korea, we used to think that grammar was just something to memorize. However, after coming here, we began to understand how grammar actually works in real-life situations. Learning the nuances within sentences made studying much more interesting than before.
Do you think this course will help you in your future careers/projects?
We believe this experience will continue to be very helpful for us. We have gained more confidence in using English, and we are trying to use it more often and create more opportunities to speak English, especially at work.
How would you rate the support you got from your teachers and staff?
Everyone at VGC was incredibly kind and always cheered us up. When everything felt unfamiliar during our early days in Vancouver, they were a great support and someone we could comfortably ask questions. It really helped us adjust to life in Canada.
The teachers also shared helpful tips on how we could use English more as a couple in our daily lives. Following those tips made learning fun, and it motivated us to encourage each other and keep improving together.
Were you happy with the classmates you had? Have you been able to create networks or connections through this program?
We were very satisfied, and we are still keeping in touch with our friends through social media. Thanks to them, we were able to have many new experiences. By sharing and explaining our cultures to each other, we also had a chance to reflect on Korea from a new perspective.
What made you want to study here in Vancouver?
We initially chose to study English in Vancouver because the winters are not too harsh and the city is well known for winter sports. However, after experiencing it ourselves, we found that we could enjoy the winter even more than we had expected. Vancouver is also famous for its film industry. Although we only had a short stay and didn’t get to fully experience the summer, we believe it would be wonderful. As a couple who enjoys hiking, we were especially impressed by the wide variety of gear available and the countless hiking trails.
Is there a memorable moment or activity that you’d like to share?
We really enjoyed having the opportunity to learn English through games and quizzes during class. Without even realizing it, we found ourselves fully engaged—especially when trying to earn purple cards.
Would you recommend VGC to other students who want to study English and Business in Vancouver?
We would definitely recommend VGC to other students who want to study English in Vancouver. The teachers are highly experienced and supportive, which allowed us to improve our English by focusing on our individual weaknesses. In addition, there are many affordable and diverse activities that help students experience and learn about life in Vancouver.
